The Importance of Having your Tiles and Grout Cleaned

The most widely used areas of your home are covered with tiles. Be it on your floors or on your walls, tiles give your rooms a brighter environment during the day, and are a perfect fit for areas that hold or discharge water. Because of this, you want to maintain your tile’s abilities for a long period of time, and one example of proper tile maintenance is, routine tile and grout cleaning.

Grout, or the sealed edges of your tiles, easily accumulates grime, dirt, and dust. If they are not immediately removed, your tiles will begin to look horrible and lose its smooth and polished surface. Also, because of this build-up, your floors are more prone to acquiring mold, mildew, and other microorganism, that can seriously make you ill.

Cleaning Tiles

  • Remove loose dirt, food crumbs, and other dust-like particles, by vacuuming your surface daily.
  • Even if your floors do not contain stains, mopping the floor with warm water and drying it after, will ensure its cleanliness and keep dirt from accumulating on the grout.
  • Immediately clean spills, to prevent their sediments from hardening on your tiled floors
  • If the spill is a bit difficult to remove, use a disinfectant.

Cleaning Grout

  • If your grout is lightly stained, use a strong bleach solution by mixing ¾ cup of it with 1 gallon of water. Use a scrubber, small brush, or toothbrush, to clean the spaces. Remember, you only want to remove the gunk and not damage your tile’s grout – so, do not scrub too hard.
  • If the stain in the grout is deep or has discolored your tiles, the best way is to have them replaced immediately.
