Downey, Idaho, is a small town in the Marsh Valley in Bannock County. This community is believed to be named after Mr. Downey, a Union Pacific Railroad director. However, the existence of a Mr. Downey, who worked for the railroad, has not been confirmed. Downey was incorporated in 1912, and it currently has a small population of around 500.

This 7.6-mile out-and-back trail is considered moderately challenging, taking an average of four hours and 19 minutes to complete. If you want to stay the night, you can stay at the Malad Summit Campground, which sits next to Mill Creek and a dense forest of maple trees, which offers plenty of shade.
