Carpet Cleaning & Restoration in Franklin, ID
Franklin, Idaho, is a small town in Franklin County. It was founded by Mormon pioneers led by Thomas S. Smart in 1860 and named after Franklin Richards, an Apostle for the LDS Church. Franklin was the first permanent European settlement in the Idaho territory, making it the oldest town in the state. At first, it was believed to be in the Utah territory until a 1872 survey determined the townsite was actually in Idaho. Franklin is currently home to only around 1,000 people.
Take a step back in time by visiting the Franklin Historic District. Here you can explore the museum and many historic buildings. The museum, Relic Hall, was built to resemble a log home, and its collection includes pioneer farm tools, photos of settlers, and a Yellowstone Park Touring Stagecoach. The Doney cabin, one of the historic buildings, is the second-oldest house in Idaho and an example of a pioneer rock house. It contains some of the Doneys’ original handmade furniture.
Because Franklin is the oldest town in Idaho, they host Idaho Days, a three-day celebration of Idaho. It includes a fun run, breakfast, parade, music, historical presentations, entertainment, car show, community softball tournament, and fireworks. Idaho Days occurs annually on the last full weekend in June.
If you want to enjoy outdoor recreation, consider visiting Oneida Narrows Reservoir, a scenic 420-acre reservoir on the Bear River in Franklin. Many people come here for fishing, boating, swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing, floating, and bird watching. There are also two popular campgrounds nearby: Maple Grove Campground and Redpoint Campground.
